I Don't Know What He Did But...

Poor Gus. He loves to bug the girls, and even though it never ends well for him, he seems like he just can't help himself. In the past two days, Gus has tried to hide a ball so he can have it overnight (I pick up all the toys every night, because Coma will bring them to us as "gifts" while we are sleeping). On both nights, one of the girls has grabbed it from his hiding spot and brought it to me. Revenge is theirs!

Ecotraction - An Alternative To Traditional Ice Melters?

I know this is way too early in the year for this thought (I don't want to think about snow yet either!), but I was looking for an alternative to the traditional ice melter for this winter, and Ecotraction seems to fit the bill. Our cats are indoor cats, but the regular salt stuff comes inside in the treads of our shoes, and last year I caught Gus trying to give a big chunk of the salt a lick - not good!
Has anyone used it? Did you like it? Please drop me a line with your thoughts, or I am @KJKat on Twitter. Thanks!

Swiffer WetJet Email Hoax

Since 2004, emails have been circulating regarding the safety of using Swiffer WetJet in your home. This email is a hoax, but a really persistent one! It is safe to use Swiffer products if you have pets, just try to keep your pets off the floor when the product is still wet. For more info about this hoax, check out www.snopes.com or the ASPCA's press release below.

New Animal Cruelty Bill Passes In Ontario

A new bill (Bill C-50) just passed in Ontario, Canada giving the province the strongest animal anti-cruelty laws in Canada. The bill includes jail time, higher fines, and - my personal favourite bit of the bill - lifetime bans on animal ownership. I have never understood why someone could get charged with animal cruelty, yet go out and get another pet!! Thank you Ontario for this change! There are other strengths to the bill, follow the link to read the OSPCA news release.

Air Canada Changes Pet Flying Rules!

Victory for Canadian pet owners (or people coming to visit Canada) who want to travel comfortably with their pets! A ruling today by the Canadian Air Transportation Agency said that Air Canada's policy changes in how they handled pets were unreasonable. Air Canada had changed their policy to only allow pets in the cargo hold and not in the passenger cabin. Air Canada has until May 5th, 2008 to begin allowing pets in the cabin as "checked baggage". The changes will affect anyone traveling on Air Canada's domestic or international flights to and from Canada. If you plan on flying Air Canada after May 5th of this year, check with your travel agent or Air Canada to see if your pet can qualify to be in the cabin with you. Also, if you have connecting flights, make sure to check that the other airline has the same pet policy.

Check out our traveling with cat tips for suggestions on travel carriers and necessary info!

Counterfeit Advantage Warning!

Hi! This is a quick warning to anyone who is using or thinking of using Advantage Flea Control. I love Advantage - the REAL stuff! - but unfortunately there are people out there selling "knockoff" Advantage online and on auction sites. The packaging is the same but the product is not Advantage and can cause harm to your cat! Only buy Advantage from a trusted source like your vet, 1-800-Pet-Meds, or consider checking your local pharmacy. Our local grocery store pharmacy is now carrying pet prescriptions too.
